Functional Skills – English and Mathematics
EBCF’s English and Maths courses are designed to help you improve your existing literacy and numeracy skills, boosting your chances of accessing employment and development opportunities. The courses cover general English and maths with a particular focus on job ready skills including reading and understanding documents, completing forms, and writing CVs, covering letters, and emails. They will also support you in understanding pay slips and managing your time effectively.
Course Levels
EBCF English and Maths courses are available at different levels depending on your existing knowledge and skills. The levels are as follows, from simplest to most advanced:
- Entry Level 1
- Entry Level 2
- Entry Level 3
- Level 1
- Level 2 – standard equal to GCSE higher grades
Our specialist advisors will offer you a course at the level right for you. When you successfully complete a course you may choose to progress to the next level in the same subject.
English
The Literacy courses cover speaking and listening, reading and writing, vocabulary, spelling and grammar.
The Functional Skills English courses are aimed at people who already speak English. Our ESOL Course (link) may be more suitable for you if you do not speak English well, this is something our advisors can help you decide.
Mathematics
Numeracy courses cover whole numbers, basic adding and subtraction, multiplication and division and common measures.
Entry Requirements
- Unemployed and in receipt of working age/work-related benefits
- Aged 19 +
- UK citizen OR European Citizen or been in UK for three years or more
Course Duration
Two to three weeks.
Learning and Assessment Methods
You will be taught through classroom sessions, practical activities and group activities. Depending on course level there will be spoken, written, or computer-based exams.
